Sun Wah BBQ was open Thanksgiving Thursday, November 25, 2021 with allotted pickup-slots starting at 9:00am and continuing until 5:30pm. This BYO service is for pick-up only. Restaurant dine-in of turkeys is not permitted.

How do I submit my OWN turkey?

How do I purchase a Sun Wah BBQ turkey?

UPDATE Nov 19, 2021: All Sun Wah BBQ supplied turkeys have been pre-ordered and called for. Any hail-Mary chances of scoring an unaccounted Turkey will require dropping by on Thursday & waiting. There is no guarantee there will be any available.

What’s in store?

Both the city of Chicago and Sun Wah BBQ will require patrons and employees alike be masked. As in past Thanksgivings, Sun Wah BBQ will be busy at every station. The rear kitchen will be creating entrees for carry-out and a reservation-packed dining room. Every available roasting chamber will be at full bore creating our signature Chinese BBQ items in addition to the turkeys. The front kitchen will be keeping up with noodle soup & congee orders. The carry-out counter will be fielding new orders and fulfilling take-outs.

To help alleviate indoor crowding on this day, all patrons picking up any kind of order whether from our normal menu or completed turkeys, please approach the table in our vestibule. Indicate whether you’re picking up an order or checking in a reserved group for dine-in. Giving us the name and phone number provided at the time of ordering will streamline the process greatly. Please dress appropriately for the weather as there may not be available standing room indoors for waiting on orders.

While the restaurant will be open starting at 8:30am, the first pickup slots start at 9:00am and will continue through 5:30pm. During your deposit, the ideal time slot you’re aiming for may no longer be available. You’ll need to be amenable to picking up based on an alternate availability. Due to unforeseen delays, there may be a variance of 45 minutes on a given time slot.

During your pick-up slot, pay for any remaining balance via cash, VISA, or MasterCard. Your turkey will be packed in a transport box to prevent it from rolling around inside your vehicle. A portion of gravy from the roasted drippings accompany each bird. Turkeys are sent out whole so that carving can take place at home.

Seeking a reheat?

Out of the restaurant, our BYO Turkeys are ready to eat. However if reheating is needed:

  • Preheat a conventional oven to 375ºF (190ºC)
  • Remove turkey completely from the transport box and place on a roasting pan
  • Roast in oven for no more than 30-45 minutes. Do not overcook!
  • Remove from oven and let turkey rest for 5 minutes before carving
  • Enjoy!

Don’t forget to round out your feast with additional favorites. Make sure you’re ordering in advance as carry-outs for THIS particular day may take well over an hour to fulfill.
