Sun Wah BBQ’s Uptown Chicago neighborhood is holding its Chinese Lunar New Year Parade on Saturday, February 8, 2025. ExploreUptown has a post outlining events throughout this day. The parade begins promptly at 1:00pm at Argyle and Sheridan. Sun Wah BBQ’s main dining room opens at 10:30am.
Excepting major holidays and unique circumstances, Sun Wah BBQ uses Thursday as its off-day. For January 30, the lights may be on that particular Thursday, but only for a scheduled private event. No seating for the public will be available. The only sliver of possible service will be an available carry out counter for pick up orders. Planning a major gathering of your own? Tuesday, January 28 is the eve of the Lunar New Year. This a revered day in Chinese culture as it’s the time to gather with family to usher in the New Year. In order to do likewise, Sun Wah BBQ will start with its usual business hours but close early with a final seating in our dining room at 4:30pm. The carry out counter will undoubtedly be mobbed throughout the day from those seeking to lay out a rich bounty at their own home gatherings.
Wednesday, January 29 is the official start of Chinese New Year – the Year of the Snake. On this day, Sun Wah BBQ will hold normal business hours from start to close (as indicated at the bottom of every page on this site)
As far as designated food holidays go, we’re quite partial to this one. Sun Wah BBQ’s Beijing Duck Dinner has been the draw for countless patrons near, far, and across several generations. As we enter our 40th year as a Chicago mainstay, we look forward to serving you, your milestones, and your generations to come.
Sun Wah BBQ will be open on the first day of the New Year with its normal business hours starting with the carry out counter at 9:00am. Dining room is available starting at 10:30am. The crew takes its 40minute lunch break at 2:00pm and reconvene after that with service continuing until its kitchens close at 8:30pm. Have a happy & healthy 2025!
For Tuesday, December 31st Sun Wah BBQ finishes out 2024 with regular business hours opening its carry out counter at 9:00am. Dining room opens for patrons at 10:30am. Please note our daily 40 minute lunch break at 2:00pm. Service continues until the kitchens close at 8:30pm.
Due to customer demand, Sun Wah BBQ will be open for another rare Thursday on December 26, 2024. During this special weekend where our patrons have visiting friends and family, this additional day provides an open venue to gather. The restaurant will hold routine business hours with the carry out counter available at 9am and dining room open at 10:30am. Kitchens will close at 8:30pm.
For Christmas Wednesday, Sun Wah BBQ will be open with limited hours. Our front carry out counter starts at 8:30am for pick up orders. Dining room begins service at 10:30am. Reservations for this entire day have already been fully booked. Any chances of grabbing an open table will be on a walk in basis at this point. Our final seating for this day will be at 4:30pm. Front counter for carry outs will finish at 5:00pm.
For 2024, Christmas Eve falls on a Tuesday. Sun Wah BBQ will hold normal business hours with the dining room opening at 10:30am. Service continues until 8:30pm where the kitchens close for the evening. As of this post, dinner reservations for this day have been fully booked by patrons who have contacted us well in advance. This leaves some limited walk-in spots for those willing to wait. For those who don’t, rest assured there’s always carry-out.
