May 10, 2026 – Mother’s Day

With more than a month to go, it’s probably still not too early to post this reminder that Sun Wah BBQ will be open on that Sunday where many patrons will be looking to gather and celebrate Mom. As a reminder, we’ll always take reservations up UNTIL all tables and time slots are called for. AFTER that, any further seating availability will only be on a walk-in basis only.

Chinese New Year Mini-Break

Per ducktor’s orders (he’s a real quack), we’re taking a very brief breather to recuperate from the holidays, secular New Year, and Chinese New Year. Sun Wah BBQ will be closed starting Tuesday, February 24 through Thursday, February 26, 2026. The restaurant resumes on Friday, February 27. Please note we will not be able to take Feast reservations while we’re away from the restaurant.

2026 Chinese New Year Hours

Monday, February 16 is the EVE of the lunar new year. As Chinese tradition earmarks the eve as the important night to gather at home for the family meal, Sun Wah BBQ will hold it’s final seating at 5:30pm.

For Chinese New Year on Tuesday, February 17, the restaurant will be open throughout its normal business hours.

January 18, 2026 – National Peking Duck Day

Sun Wah BBQ

Sunday marks the observance of National Peking Duck Day and Sun Wah BBQ is ready to help facilitate. As a Chicago institution in its 40th year, the restaurant has served countless generations of locals and visitors alike. However, if you know of any friend or family member who’s not experienced this feast, this national day of recognition would be the perfect opportunity… or at a minimum to get your OWN fix!
