It’s that time of the year when patrons start inquiring a week before Halloween, so let’s announce our annual BYO Turkey event. To help everyone make the most of Thanksgiving 2025, we offer this service preparing turkeys in our Sun Wah BBQ ways. Similar to the Hong Kong style roast duck, we treat the turkey cavity with ingredients like bean paste, house-blended 5-spice, cilantro, shallots, and ginger. Frozen turkeys can be carried in by patrons or ordered from our own stock of farm-fresh birds.
Sun Wah BBQ will be open Thanksgiving Thursday, November 27, 2025 with allotted Turkey pick-up slots starting at 9:00am and continuing until 5:30pm. The BYO service is for carry-outs only. Restaurant dine-in of turkeys is not permitted as there will already be a full house of patrons attending seeking our everyday menu items. We are following a 100 turkey limit (combined total) to pursue smooth fulfillment throughout this day.
How do I submit my own turkey?
First, always check on this page to make sure there are no announcements about reaching our turkey limit (explained above). For best results, submit turkeys within the range of 10-15 lbs (4 ½ – 6 ½ Kg) for optimal results.
Bring your frozen turkey to the restaurant BEFORE Monday, November 24, 5:00pm. The earlier to the start of this event, the better. Most of the staff at our front pick-up counter will be able to assist you or locate the right person in charge (Mike, Laura, Kelly, Olga, Tania). Patrons who submit birds toward the start of this event will have the best first choices of pick-up time slots. Cost for this BYO service will be $7.00 per pound (pre-cooking weight). A $20 deposit for EACH bird will be required at the time of drop-off payable by cash, VISA or MasterCard. — Checks, Discover, and AmEx are not accepted. — (i.e., if submitting TWO birds, a $40 deposit is required)
How do I obtain a restaurant-supplied turkey?
Those opting for a more direct and easy route may wish to just order a turkey from Sun Wah BBQ. We will have our own supply of farm-fresh birds falling between 10-15 lbs. Cost for Sun Wah supplied turkeys will be $9.00 per pound. Orders for these birds are open as of this posting and will close off Friday, November 21 at 5:00pm. Same as the process above, each bird will require a $20 deposit payable in-person by cash, VISA or MasterCard. For credit cards specifically, deposits can additionally be done over the phone during our business hours where we will need information like card number, expiration date, billing zip code, and phone number. The name and number you provide will be the information we’re matching at the time of pick-up. The person you may be sending must provide the same information so there are no mis-matches or delays.
The later you order your turkey, the narrower your pick-up slot choices. Plan to be flexible if you opt to procrastinate.

What’s in store?
As our past Thanksgivings predict, Sun Wah BBQ will be bustling throughout our limited hours that day from 8:30am til the doors close at 6:00pm. The rear kitchen will be at full throttle creating entrees for our carry-out and dine-in service. Every available roasting chamber will be creating our signature Chinese BBQ items in addition to this event’s turkeys. The front kitchen will be keeping up with noodle, congee, and Dim Sum orders. The carry-out counter will be orchestrating butcher-block and take out orders. Even the bar area will be entertaining walk-in patrons who didn’t follow our advice about making advanced reservations.
Because of the complexities expediting this service, there may infrequently be delays that swing our target times by as much as 45 minutes. If it gets extreme like that, we’ll try to phone you if possible. Be patient with us as we are trying to get your bird to you as soon as we can. Similarly, if you are running late, please call so we may put the bird aside.
Your turkey will be packed in a transport box to prevent it from rolling around inside your vehicle. It may further be a good idea double-check you’ve designated ample vehicle space so that your turkey isn’t precariously teetering atop of something else. A pint of au jus gravy from the roasted drippings will accompany each turkey. Additional pints are available for $8, but hardly anyone finds this necessary. All turkeys are sent out whole so that carving can take place at home.
Reheating instructions
Finished turkeys are ready-to-eat throughout this day. However, if reheating is desired:
- Preheat a conventional oven to 375ºF (190ºC)
- Remove turkey completely from the transport box and place bare on a roasting pan
- Roast in oven for no more than 30-45 minutes. Do not overcook!
- Remove from oven and let turkey rest for 5 minutes before carving
- Enjoy!
Beyond the turkey
It’s common for BYO Turkey patrons to order additional menu items so that they’re picking up a full-fledged feast. In anticipation of a chaotic Thursday, consider placing carry-out orders for those additions no later than Tuesday, November 25. Be sure to indicate it’s being picked up along with your BYO Turkey and indicate your time slot. When your guests hear that it’s Sun Wah, it’s likely they’ll crave a Beef Chow Fun, Yang Chow Fried Rice, Potstickers, Baby Bok Choy, Hot-Sour Soup, or Egg Rolls.
