Saturday, March 1st is the designated day to celebrate the pig in all its porcine protein perfection. Whether served as a Hong Kong style Roast Pork with it’s crackling skin or as an advance ordered whole piglet for your special occasion, Sun Wah BBQ has spent its 40 years in Chicago honing this craft.

The restaurant temporarily closed February 4th through the 6th. That’s Tuesday, Wednesday, and our usual off-day Thursday. The restaurant reopened with normal business hours starting Friday, February 7th.

Sun Wah BBQ’s Uptown Chicago neighborhood is held its Chinese Lunar New Year Parade on Saturday, February 8, 2025. ExploreUptown posted events occurring throughout this day. The parade began promptly at 1:00pm at Argyle and Sheridan. Sun Wah BBQ’s main dining room opens at 10:30am.

For January 30, the lights may be on that particular Thursday, but only for a scheduled private event. No seating for the public will be available. The only sliver of possible service will be an available carry out counter for pick up orders. Planning a major gathering of your own? Consider our upstairs Event Level.
Tuesday, January 28 is the eve of the Lunar New Year. This a revered day in Chinese culture as it’s the time to gather with family to usher in the New Year. In order to do likewise, Sun Wah BBQ will start with its usual business hours but close early with a final seating in our dining room at 4:30pm. The carry out counter will undoubtedly be mobbed throughout the day from those seeking to lay out a rich bounty at their own home gatherings.
Wednesday, January 29 is the official start of Chinese New Year – the Year of the Snake. On this day, Sun Wah BBQ will hold normal business hours from start to close (as indicated at the bottom of every page on this site)

As far as designated food holidays go, we’re quite partial to this one. Sun Wah BBQ’s Beijing Duck Dinner has been the draw for countless patrons near, far, and across several generations. As we enter our 40th year as a Chicago mainstay, we look forward to serving you, your milestones, and your generations to come.
Sun Wah BBQ will be open on the first day of the New Year with its normal business hours starting with the carry out counter at 9:00am. Dining room is available starting at 10:30am. The crew takes its 40minute lunch break at 2:00pm and reconvene after that with service continuing until its kitchens close at 8:30pm. Have a happy & healthy 2025!
For Tuesday, December 31st Sun Wah BBQ finishes out 2024 with regular business hours opening its carry out counter at 9:00am. Dining room opens for patrons at 10:30am. Please note our daily 40 minute lunch break at 2:00pm. Service continues until the kitchens close at 8:30pm.
