Sunday marks the observance of National Peking Duck Day and Sun Wah BBQ is ready to help facilitate. As a Chicago institution in its 40th year, the restaurant has served countless generations of locals and visitors alike. However, if you know of any friend or family member who’s not experienced this feast, this national day of recognition would be the perfect opportunity… or at a minimum to get your OWN fix!
January 1, 2026 – Open New Year’s Day
To celebrate the start of a new year, Sun Wah BBQ will be open on its usual off-day Thursday. Beijing Duck Dinner with family & friends? No better way to usher in 2026. Restaurant begins its carry-out counter at 9:00am, dining room service starts at 10:30am with a 40 minute crew break at 2:00pm. Kitchens close at 8:30pm.
December 31, 2025 – New Year’s Eve
Sun Wah BBQ will be open its regular hours for the final day of 2025. Dining room service begins at 10:30am and continues through 8:30pm.
Christmas Day 2025
Is Sun Wah BBQ open Thursday for Christmas? Yes, until final seating at 5pm where the kitchens will close shortly afterwards. Have reservations been fully booked throughout this day? Yes, many patrons have planned ahead nearly a month in advance. The few tables we’ve allotted for walk-ins will be claimed by those arriving earliest before our final-seating cut-off. As mentioned in an earlier post, carry-out orders will only be taken from patrons in-person at the restaurant. Phone orders have been temporarily halted starting Tuesday the 23rd.
December 24, 2025 – Christmas Eve Hours
Sun Wah BBQ will be open throughout its normal hours for Christmas Eve Wednesday. Fervent patrons have already claimed all reservations for this day leaving a designated handful of tables open for first-come, first-served walk-ins. Kitchens close promptly at 8:30pm.
December 23, 2025 – In-Person Carry-Outs
Due to the anticipated demand and turnout for the Christmas holiday, phone orders for carry-out will be suspended starting Tuesday December 23. Any further carry-out orders for pickup on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day will need to be placed in-person at the restaurant. Phone orders will resume on Friday, December 26, 2025.
December 10, 2025 – National Lager Day
Wednesday is designated as National Lager Day to appreciate the easy-drinking style of beer appreciated from coast to coast.
