Sun Wah BBQ will be open on Friday, July 4, 2025. We’ll hold routine starting hours, but may close at 7:30pm. No additional reservations are being taken. Any additional seating will be on a first-come-first-available walk-in basis. Please plan accordingly.
July 3rd, 2025 – A RARE Thursday OPEN
For Thursday, July 3rd, Sun Wah BBQ will be open on its usual day-off. This is extra day of opportunity is for the friends and family coming to town for the Independence Day weekend. The restaurant’s Csrry Out counter opens at 9am and Dining Room begins service at 10:30am. The Kitchens close at 8:30pm.
June 15, 2025 – Open Father’s Day
What’s dad’s favorite item at Sun Wah BBQ? The restaurant will be open on Sunday, June 15 so the family can solve this burning question.
May 26, 2025 – Memorial Day
Sun Wah BBQ will be open during its normal business hours for Memorial Day Monday. As always, hours are indicated at the bottom of every page on this site.
May 11, 2025 – Mother’s Day
Sun Wah BBQ will be open Sunday for Mother’s Day. The dining room has been fully booked a week in advance with reservations. Any additional seating for this special day will only be on a walk-in basis at this point.
May 10, 2025 – National Shrimp Day
Saturday celebrates National Shrimp Day. Sun Wah BBQ is ready facilitate with a variety of Shrimp dishes from its menu.
April 7, 2025 – National Beer Day
Monday is designated as National Beer Day and Sun Wah BBQ can help with our selection of Asian and local beers. Drop by and enjoy a cold one with your meal.
March 1, 2025 – National Pig Day
Saturday, March 1st is the designated day to celebrate the pig in all its porcine protein perfection. Whether served as a Hong Kong style Roast Pork with it’s crackling skin or as an advance ordered whole piglet for your special occasion, Sun Wah BBQ has spent its 40 years in Chicago honing this craft.

After being at the frontlines of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Chinese New Year, Sun Wah BBQ has scheduled a few day’s off. The restaurant temporarily closed February 4th through the 6th. That’s Tuesday, Wednesday, and our usual off-day Thursday. The restaurant reopened with normal business hours starting Friday, February 7th.
February 8, 2025 – Chinese New Year Parade
Sun Wah BBQ’s Uptown Chicago neighborhood is held its Chinese Lunar New Year Parade on Saturday, February 8, 2025. ExploreUptown posted events occurring throughout this day. The parade began promptly at 1:00pm at Argyle and Sheridan. Sun Wah BBQ’s main dining room opens at 10:30am.
