Sun Wah BBQ will be open Labor Day Monday throughout our normal business hours. Our carry out counter opens at 9:00am, dining room opens at 10:30am with a 40-minute crew pause starting at 2:00pm. Service resumes at 2:40pm and continues until our kitchens close at 8:30pm.
2025 Summer Vacation Schedule
Sun Wah BBQ was closed for its annual Summer Vacation Monday, July 7th through Thursday, July 17. The restaurant has since reopened and is back to it’s normal schedule.
4th of July 2025 – We’re OPEN
Sun Wah BBQ will be open on Friday, July 4, 2025. We’ll hold routine starting hours, but may close at 7:30pm. No additional reservations are being taken. Any additional seating will be on a first-come-first-available walk-in basis. Please plan accordingly.
June 15, 2025 – Open Father’s Day
What’s dad’s favorite item at Sun Wah BBQ? The restaurant will be open on Sunday, June 15 so the family can solve this burning question.
May 26, 2025 – Memorial Day
Sun Wah BBQ will be open during its normal business hours for Memorial Day Monday. As always, hours are indicated at the bottom of every page on this site.
May 11, 2025 – Mother’s Day
Sun Wah BBQ will be open Sunday for Mother’s Day. The dining room has been fully booked a week in advance with reservations. Any additional seating for this special day will only be on a walk-in basis at this point.
February 8, 2025 – Chinese New Year Parade

Sun Wah BBQ’s Uptown Chicago neighborhood is held its Chinese Lunar New Year Parade on Saturday, February 8, 2025. ExploreUptown posted events occurring throughout this day. The parade began promptly at 1:00pm at Argyle and Sheridan. Sun Wah BBQ’s main dining room opens at 10:30am.

Tuesday, January 28 is the eve of the Lunar New Year. This a revered day in Chinese culture as it’s the time to gather with family to usher in the New Year. In order to do likewise, Sun Wah BBQ will start with its usual business hours but close early with a final seating in our dining room at 4:30pm. The carry out counter will undoubtedly be mobbed throughout the day from those seeking to lay out a rich bounty at their own home gatherings.
Wednesday, January 29 is the official start of Chinese New Year – the Year of the Snake. On this day, Sun Wah BBQ will hold normal business hours from start to close (as indicated at the bottom of every page on this site)

As far as designated food holidays go, we’re quite partial to this one. Sun Wah BBQ’s Beijing Duck Dinner has been the draw for countless patrons near, far, and across several generations.
