In one of our busiest days of the year with the full throttle nature of pushing out 100 BYO Turkeys and magnified by the perfect storm of everyone bringing their out-of-town guests, Sun Wah BBQ’s available reservations have been fully booked for well over a week. What tables we’ve set aside for unreserved walk-in patrons will strictly be on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to all the carry-out orders already accumulated in advance, phone orders for carry-out on Thanksgiving will be suspended starting now. Any additional carry-out orders will need to be placed in-person also on a walk-in basis. The restaurant opens its doors for those picking up their BYO Turkeys and carry-out orders at 8:00am. The dining room begins service at 10:00am and will continue until the kitchens close at 5:00pm.

Bring Your Own Turkey – 2025
The submission and ordering portion of this year’s BYO Turkey event has now closed. As of Sunday, November 23rd, we are at maximum capacity for preparing Thanksgiving Turkeys in our Sun Wah style — Similar to the Hong Kong style roast duck, we treat the turkey cavity with ingredients like bean paste, house-blended 5-spice, cilantro, shallots, and ginger. Sun Wah BBQ will be open Labor Day Monday throughout our normal business hours. Our carry out counter opens at 9:00am, dining room opens at 10:30am with a 40-minute crew pause starting at 2:00pm. Service resumes at 2:40pm and continues until our kitchens close at 8:30pm.
2025 Summer Vacation Schedule
Sun Wah BBQ was closed for its annual Summer Vacation Monday, July 7th through Thursday, July 17. The restaurant has since reopened and is back to it’s normal schedule.
4th of July 2025 – We’re OPEN
Sun Wah BBQ will be open on Friday, July 4, 2025. We’ll hold routine starting hours, but may close at 7:30pm. No additional reservations are being taken. Any additional seating will be on a first-come-first-available walk-in basis. Please plan accordingly.
June 15, 2025 – Open Father’s Day
What’s dad’s favorite item at Sun Wah BBQ? The restaurant will be open on Sunday, June 15 so the family can solve this burning question.
May 26, 2025 – Memorial Day
Sun Wah BBQ will be open during its normal business hours for Memorial Day Monday. As always, hours are indicated at the bottom of every page on this site.
May 11, 2025 – Mother’s Day
Sun Wah BBQ will be open Sunday for Mother’s Day. The dining room has been fully booked a week in advance with reservations. Any additional seating for this special day will only be on a walk-in basis at this point.
February 8, 2025 – Chinese New Year Parade
Sun Wah BBQ’s Uptown Chicago neighborhood is held its Chinese Lunar New Year Parade on Saturday, February 8, 2025. ExploreUptown posted events occurring throughout this day. The parade began promptly at 1:00pm at Argyle and Sheridan. Sun Wah BBQ’s main dining room opens at 10:30am.
