It’s National Oysters & Clams Day on Sunday. When available fresh, Sun Wah BBQ’s Steamed Oysters are simply dressed with a fermented black bean sauce, steamed perfectly, and garnished with aromatics. Don’t procrastinate as these get snapped up quickly by your fellow patrons.
Saturday is the day to celebrate the crab. Sun Wah BBQ has Soft-Shell Blue Crab on the menu throughout the year. Our live tanks stock Dungeness Crab only when available fresh.
Friday observes National Pig Day. Sun Wah BBQ celebrates this occasion coinciding in the Year of the Pig through its perennial favorites: Hong Kong style Roast Pork, Char Siu, and the numerous pork entrees in our menu.
Sun Wah BBQ will be closed Valentine’s Day this year as it falls on our off-day Thursday.
Sun Wah BBQ will be closed Wednesday, January 30 as the forecast indicates temperatures will be anywhere from -18ºF to a high of -10ºF. Thursday, January 31 is the restaurant’s off-day. Business resumes Friday, February 1, 2019.
Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood is slated to have its Chinese New Years Parade on Saturday, February 9, 2019. Celebration is planned for 1:00pm and should take place near the vicinity of the Argyle Street Redline Station.

The first Tuesday this February ushers in the Year of the Pig. “Kung Hei Faat Choy!” Sun Wah BBQ will be closed Tuesday, February 5, 2019 to observe the first day of Chinese New Year.
The restaurant will maintain normal business hours for Wednesday, February 6 and actually be open Thursday (our normal off-day) February 7 to compensate for Tuesday’s closing.
Monday, February 4, marks the eve of the Lunar New Year, a day where Chinese around the world make extraordinary journeys and focused effort to gather with family and loved ones to share an evening feast. Sun Wah BBQ opens at 9:00am where the carry out counter will supply a massive amount of Hong Kong style barbecue to a sustained crowd of patrons throughout the day. The restaurant closes at 6:00pm with last seating set for 5:00pm for dine-in patrons so that we may get a chance gather with our families.
