July 26, 2024 – City Maintenance is Finished

On Friday, July 26, Sun Wah BBQ will be closed during the morning and will reopen at 1:30pm. The City of Chicago will be conducting work on their water system for the region.

Update: The City’s scheduled time? Bogus. Front curb still dug up and the restaurant is without water as of 4:00pm. Sun Wah BBQ will offer limited carry-out for the time being. Our dining room has to remain closed until further notice.

Updated Update: As of 5:00pm, the City crew has buttoned up the curb and water has been restored. Sun Wah BBQ is open again.

2024 – Summer Vacation Break!

Sun Wah BBQ was closed for our annual vacation starting Monday, July 8, 2024. The restaurant has resumed with normal business hours on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. In addition, we will be open on our usually off-day Thursday on July 18 with normal hours.

2023 – Summer Vacation Break!

Sun Wah BBQ will be closed and away on vacation from Wednesday, July 5th through Thursday, July 13, 2023. For those seeking to make reservations, please do so the morning of Friday, July 14. Any chances of returning earlier will be announced on this post.

Rest Break for Chinese New Year

Unlike the weeks off taken by Chinese businesses worldwide, Sun Wah BBQ’s brief Chinese New Year break will take place Tuesday, January 24th and Wednesday, January 25, 2023. The restaurant reopens its doors for a rare Thursday, January 26, 2023 starting at 9:00am. Kitchens close at 8:30pm.

January 2021 – Days Off

From Tuesday, January 5, 2021 through Thursday, January 7, 2021 Sun Wah BBQ will be taking those days off for some much-needed rest. Thank you patrons who have helped keep the roasting chambers roaring throughout 2020. The restaurant will resume its carry-out service on Friday, January 8, 2021.

2020 Summer Mini-Break

Our annual summer break will be short this year spanning from Tuesday, July 7th through Thursday, July 9th. The restaurant resumes operations Friday, July 10 for carry-out and reserved dine-in service.

June 15, 2020 – Lobster Day

Sun Wah BBQ will only be open Friday, Saturday and Sundays for the duration of the pandemic. We’ll be closed on the Monday that celebrates the lobster. If you’re craving this crustacean, call us during the weekend to check on availability.
