Sun Wah BBQ will only be open until 5:00pm for Saturday, August 22nd. For the rest of that evening, the restaurant will be closed to the public for a scheduled private event. Final seating for dine-in service will be at 4:00pm.
2026 Summer Vacation Schedule
Sun Wah BBQ’s annual vacation break is near. Please note our changes for the two weeks following Independence Day:
Sunday, July 5th: We will start with normal hours, but close earlier at 8:00pm This is the last day to stock up before we close for vacation. All parts of the restaurant will be closed from Monday, July 6 through Thursday, July 16. The restaurant reopens on Friday, July 17 with our normal business hours.

Per ducktor’s orders (he’s a real quack), we’re taking a very brief breather to recuperate from the holidays, secular New Year, and Chinese New Year. Sun Wah BBQ will be closed starting Tuesday, February 24 through Thursday, February 26, 2026. The restaurant resumes on Friday, February 27. Please note we will not be able to take Feast reservations while we’re away from the restaurant.
2025 Summer Vacation Schedule
Sun Wah BBQ was closed for its annual Summer Vacation Monday, July 7th through Thursday, July 17. The restaurant has since reopened and is back to it’s normal schedule.
February 2025 Mini Break
After being at the frontlines of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Chinese New Year, Sun Wah BBQ has scheduled a few day’s off. The restaurant temporarily closed February 4th through the 6th. That’s Tuesday, Wednesday, and our usual off-day Thursday. The restaurant reopened with normal business hours starting Friday, February 7th.
January 30, 2025 – Still closed Thursdays. Mostly.
Excepting major holidays and unique circumstances, Sun Wah BBQ uses Thursday as its off-day. For January 30, the lights may be on that particular Thursday, but only for a scheduled private event. No seating for the public will be available. The only sliver of possible service will be an available carry out counter for pick up orders. Planning a major gathering of your own? October 31, 2024 – CLOSED Halloween
For Thursday, Sun Wah BBQ will be closed on Halloween, not because it’s Halloween, but because it’s our off-day Thursday. Beijing Duck Dinners will once again be available for goblin on Friday November 1st. Happy Halloween!
August 7, 2024 – Wednesday Late Start
On Wednesday, August 7, Sun Wah BBQ will be closed for morning and noon service. The restaurant opens at 3:30pm for dine-in and carryout service. Our last seating is at 8:30pm. Please note we are closed on our usual off-day Thursday.
July 26, 2024 – City Maintenance is Finished
On Friday, July 26, Sun Wah BBQ will be closed during the morning and will reopen at 1:30pm. The City of Chicago will be conducting work on their water system for the region.
Update: The City’s scheduled time? Bogus. Front curb still dug up and the restaurant is without water as of 4:00pm. Sun Wah BBQ will offer limited carry-out for the time being. Our dining room has to remain closed until further notice.
Updated Update: As of 5:00pm, the City crew has buttoned up the curb and water has been restored. Sun Wah BBQ is open again.
2024 – Summer Vacation Break!
Sun Wah BBQ was closed for our annual vacation starting Monday, July 8, 2024. The restaurant has resumed with normal business hours on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. In addition, we will be open on our usually off-day Thursday on July 18 with normal hours.
